James “Harris” Hollabaugh Recreation Center is located in Hollabaugh Park in west Garland. The Center was named after James “Harris” Hollabaugh, who was born on May 31, 1930, and served on the Garland Parks and Recreation Board from 1977 to 1981, serving two years as the Chair. He served on the Garland City Council from 1988 to 1992 and from 1996 to 2000. As a long-time civic leader, Harris had active roles on the boards of local organizations, including the Texas Municipal Power Agency, Garland Chamber of Commerce, the Garland YMCA, and the Garland Crime Stoppers. On September 1, 2009, the City broke ground to begin building the Harris Hollabaugh Recreation Center. The facility was dedicated on January 22, 2011, with the Hollabaugh family in attendance.
