Christmas on the Square will not include the "Parade of Lights" this year. The annual event will, however, feature free sled rides down a snow hill. Yes, we will have snow in Garland! Patrons can also enjoy free horse-drawn carriage rides through Garland Power & Light's "Avenue of Lights". In addition, the event will showcase Christmas music performed by local GISD students and a special performance by Erica Lane. Ms. Lane has been featured on soundtracks of more than half a dozen film and television projects. She has performed at the Miss Texas Pageant, Johnnie High's Country Music Review and St. Paul's Cathedral in London. To learn more about this talented performer,visit http://www.ericalanemusic.com/.
Christmas on the Square highlights will include the official tree lighting ceremony and free photos with Santa. Patrons can enjoy such goodies as hand-dipped corn dogs, popcorn, caramel apples and hot chocolate as they stroll through the Christmas Bazaar surrounding the downtown square filled with invitation-only artisans.
No holiday festival would be complete without the opportunity to to give to those less fortunate during the holiday season. Please bring a new unwrapped toy to the event and assist Garland Fire Fighters Association with their annual toy drive. Your gift can be dropped off at the fire engine parked on the corner of Main and Sixth Street.
Parking will be available at the DART parking lot at Fifth and Walnut. Christmas on the Square is co-sponsored by the City of Garland, Garland Power & Light, Baylor Medical Center at Garland and Ahern Rentals.
Since there will not be a parade, there is no inclement weather date.
